It is the beginning of a new experience. Our road trip to Scandinavia began yesterday, in the morning we packed everything we might need in the next four weeks. We are all very excited to create new memories and share them with you.
Friday 16.7.21 Gotovlje – Zöbern (kilometer 241)
Our first little Trip was only about a two-hour ride to Zöbern, a small village in the “bucklige Welt”, Austria. There we visited Karl and Gerti, friends we haven’t seen in a long time. We were all very happy to see them again. Together with their son Lukas, his girlfriend Conny and Karl’s mother we ate a delicious dinner. Since we haven’t seen each other for such a long time, we had a lot to talk about. Over the night we stayed near their house, in front of the little local music hall. We first thought this might be a problem to the other local people, but Karl talked to the Maior, and he had nothing against us staying. Our first night in the camper was quite adventurous, most of the night there was a strong wind, and we were afraid to be blown away, then at 5 in the morning there was a thunderstorm, so now we know, it does not rain in, and as long as there is no tornado, we should stay where we are parked. One more thing we learned, it is better to close the roof windows, if you do not want to take a shower in the morning.
In the morning we went back to Karls and enjoyed our breakfast, we talked some more and Gerti decided to show us her “dirndl”, we talked about the day before. A dirndl is a beautiful traditional dress Austrian women wear in special occasions. They are all very pretty and special. We girls wanted to try them on and took a photo, all dressed in the traditional garb of Austria.
I choose to wear a red dress, which Gerti sewed herself. Klara wore a beautiful green-blue dress and Hanna chose a purple dress, because it is her favorite color. This dress is traditional in the region Gerti and Karl live in, and it is called “Wechselgaudidirndl”. We really enjoyed seeing and spending time with Karl and Gerti again. Gerti and Karl, thank you for your hospitality!
Zöbern – Poland (kilometer 677)
… but the day as well as our road trip continued. Our next destination was Poland. We drove a long way till we took a first break. We stopped at the border between Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. We took a walk in Poysdorf, near the Austrian town Schattenberg. After the storm, some time ago, Schattenberg and other villages nearby were badly damaged. At more than half of the houses the roof has been carried away or has holes. You could hear about the storm in the news, but it was something totally different to see the damage in person.
Since our destination is the Nordkap we drove further on, soon we crossed the border to the Czech Republic and as it was time for dinner, we stopped somewhere to eat. We had scrambled eggs and self-backed bread, Klaras mother gave us and zucchini from Gertis and Karls garden. It was very delicious.
We are still driving as we are approaching the final destination for today – Poland …
