Traveling back south again

Sunrise 3:58

We are slowly trying to get southern from the arctic circle, but it seems like it does not want us to leave. After waking up to a beautiful weather we prepared our next destination and went on our way.

But the sun didn’t like us that much, it quickly hid itself, as we had to welcome the clouds and the rain once again.

The grey sky created a very calming atmosphere, and it didn’t take us long to become a little bit sleepy.

But we had to stretch our limbs a little bit, and we did it in style: We went to see some very old bridge. Apparently, it is almost 400 years old, but it is still strong enough to hold some cars, as well as all of us.

Our goal is to get as south as we can (and to stay as dry as we can), and that meant, that we couldn’t stop anywhere for a long time.

After lunch we all had a lot more energy, and that meant, that some work can finally be done.

The rest of the day was spent driving.

For tonight we found a very interesting village. After going on a walk and reading some of the information tables, we discovered, that many years ago, when it was still an ice age, the story of that village began. As it is usual for ice ages, also this part of Sweden was covered with about 3 km of ice. That ice was very heavy and left a lot of traces behind, what we could see, when it was melting and sliding along stones. We also learned that this heavy ice pushed the ground down, and now it is starting to lift itself again, like a sponge when you squeeze it. Each year the ground gets 1 cm higher. This is a unique phenomenon in the world.

We liked that place, even though the natives didn’t explain, why do they want to confuse their poor postman, with having 24 otherwise very beautiful postboxes, all on one place.
